Tips for Buying Furniture Online

There are terrific savings to be had if your purchase your furniture online. Retail stores, by default, have a lot of expenses to cover, which are passed on to the consumer. Shopping online gives you a great way to save money, not only on the cost of the individual furniture piece, but on tax, as well. If you are placing a large order, for a bedroom furniture set or living room set, the savings in tax alone can add up to several hundred dollars.

So, how can you shop online for the best deals? Comparing prices for individual furniture pieces or sets is the easy part. If you do go into a brick and mortar store, you can pick out something you like and retrieve the sku number. Most furniture stores online will have the manufacturer's sku number listed on the product page. This makes finding what you want easy. Other ways to compare prices online are through shopping portals such as Google shopping, The Find, Amazon and similar stores. But, when you comparison shop, remember that you are only comparing the cost of the item. The item still must be shipped to you. This is where you need to pay attention if you are going to find real savings.

The majority of the furniture stores will advertise free shipping. As it goes with most things in life, there is usually a catch when you hear "free." Free shipping in most cases means that the products will ship to your curb. If you are simply ordering a chair, this may not be a problem. But, if you are ordering an entire bedroom set, this can indeed be a headache. For one, you must sign off with the delivery company that you have inspected your furniture shipment.  Do you really want to open an entire bedroom furniture order at the curb to make sure it's in good shape. Many people sign off because it is such a bother. Then they have big problems with the furniture company trying to return the furniture or get replacements. Even fighting with your credit card company may not help in this situation. Once you sign that dotted line, you are saying that you accept the furniture "as is."

There are several different types of delivery services and they vary in cost. Obviously, the more service you receive, the higher the price. Bronze white glove delivery will get your furniture to the first dry surface of your home. That may be your garage or your entryway. You still have to move the furniture to the room you want it in and set it up yourself. Gold white glove delivery will get the furniture into your home and approximately 30 minutes of set up time. This will not cut it for bedroom furniture, so keep that in mind. Platinum white glove delivery is the one you want to go for as it is full service. Your furniture will be set up and repaired onsite, plus anything that needs to be replaced will be ordered for you.

So, when you order your furniture online, just keep in mind that the cost is the total of the furniture plus the shipping. If you do your homework, there are great deals to be had.
